In such a highly competitive world today, there are so many unique people who tend to outshine better than others.  Some of it is due to the way they look, dress and present themselves while for others it is due to how they present themselves using their thoughtfulness, exercising their patience, spirituality, wisdom or connecting with people, becoming a source of encouragement or simply stated putting in the work and time to become better. You know who they are and more importantly you know where you are in comparison. We can’t all be on the same level with the same internal talent or external talent. But we can evolve. Given the fact that we all have the same 24 hours in a day, we can make progress in self-improvement by carving out a little time each day dedicated to self, seven days a week. To not do so would be disappointing.

It would also be the equivalent to the old saying you’ve often heard. “You can lead a horse to water but you can not make him drink.” There’s a lot of truth in the statement even when it comes to self-improvement.  Before you can drink there must be a willingness to drink.  Likewise before you can move towards self-improvement, you have to have the desire from within.   1. Daily Inspiration

Start each morning with daily inspiration. If possible, create a room where you can get yourself inspired daily. The inspiration will energize you with peace and enable you to analyze yourself. The room should be tidy and neat to help elevate your positive energy to higher levels. Amazingly, studies indicate that motivation leads to positivity in one’s life. When surrounded by a messy room you’ll discover that type of environment will spoil your mood and demotivate you. So start your day off with some daily inspiration and the right environment.

  1. Enhance Your Strengths

Next remind yourself daily with the phrase “practice makes perfect” This is another old expression that has helped many generations to build up their skill set, craft, speciality and/or talent. Constant work on your skill set, craft, specialty or talent results is what elevates you into becoming a master of your unique abilities. For example, the famous movie star Jackie Chan became the Kung-Fu master due to his continuous practice. This same expression is also true in academics, attitude, athletics, health and fitness, cooking, technology, learning a second language, how to drive a car and so much more. The more you practice the better you become. In short practice leads to perfection and over a period of time practice enhances your strengths.

  1. Overcome Your Fear

The same is true with your fears. Because no one is perfect in everything, fear is a norm that exist in all of us. According to Webster’s dictionary, fear is defined as an unpleasant emotion caused by the inner belief that someone or something is dangerous or likely to cause pain. Having an unpleasant emotion because we interpret it as a threat or uncomfortable is true in all of us. However the good news is that one can conquer his or her fear. The key step goes back to the willingness to learn and adding to the process some additional help or mentoring along the way to encourage your efforts so that progress can be made. It is okay to fear, but it is not okay to do nothing about that feeling. In every situation, focusing on the positive aspects helps all of us in overcoming our fears.

  1. Make Wise Decisions

In addition to your fears, make wise decisions. Take for example the farmer who made merry with his friends spending a lot of days with his friends and events just because he had a superb harvest. He played so long with his friends that when it was time prep his land for the next harvest the planting season was over. During the next harvesting season the farmer reaped nothing because he never sowed.  In other words, there is time for everything. Allocate time for your work every day and give it your all. Besides, the fruits of hard work should always be sweet to the eyes, ears, taste and especially your pocketbook. Wise decisions sometimes entails sacrificing your comfort.

  1. Create a Daily To-Do-List

Finally, practice creating a daily to-do list. When held responsible to complete many tasks daily, the probability of one forgetting can be very high. Having said that, it is a smart idea to make a to-do-list that will remind you of what to do and at what time. Continuous reference to the list ensures that you will leave no stone unturned. It will enhance your memory and stimulate the brain often. And more importantly, it will help develop a stronger inner you.
